GLOBAL BOARD OF MEDICAL EXPERTS:

Statista supported the World’s Best Hospitals project and established a global board of medical experts. This board is an independent organization whose job is to maintain the quality of the project and its development to consistent standards. In this year’s Best Hospitals selection, all board members supported Statista’s hospital ranking methodology.

The idea behind the Global Board of Medical Experts is to create an independent organization. This organization has got the task of bringing good quality to work as well as expanding its area. Therefore, a global board of medical experts has been entrusted with the task of providing guidance and advice. This includes input into the development of new data sources, future plans, and PROM implementation. The members of this global board have been selected on the basis of their expertise and experience.

METHODOLOGY:

The Best Hospitals 2024 list includes the following 30 countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway , Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, and the United States. These countries were selected based on several parameters such as standard of living, population, number of hospitals, and availability of data.

Some changes were made in this year’s updates: more attention was paid to medical standards, to check the quality of hospitals, and some new national accreditations were also included. Also, standards were introduced for US states. For the second time, the status of PROM implementation of hospitals was evaluated. In this year’s evaluation, focus was on eligibility standards and performance of hospitals. Also, the board of medical experts ensures that the system is always improving. Thus, notifications are based on certain data sources.

  1. Online Survey : Newsweek and Statista conducted an online survey in which over 85,000 medical experts (such as doctors, hospital managers, and health care professionals) from 30 countries were invited to participate. These experts were asked to recommend good hospitals in their country and in other countries, but were not allowed to recommend their own employer or hospital.
  2. Patient Satisfaction: To analyze the patients’ experience, we used publicly available data from existing patient surveys. These surveys are generally conducted by insurance companies to patients after their hospitalization, and hospitals themselves also conduct such surveys. Examples of questions asked in these surveys include general satisfaction with the hospital, hospital recommendation, and satisfaction with medical care.
  3. Hospital Quality Metrics: Quality criteria were collected from various public sources for most countries. These parameters vary between countries. Examples of data included include: quality of particular treatments, hygiene measures, patient safety and number of patients per doctor and per nurse.
  4. PROMs Implementation Survey: Implementation scores of PROMs (Patient Reported Outcome Measures) are incorporated into the scoring model of the World’s Best Hospitals project. In the fall and winter of 2023, Newsweek and Statista contacted hospitals and conducted a survey about the implementation and use of PROMs.

Conclusion:

The 10 best hospitals in the world in 2024 are known for the best treatment, advanced technology and skilled doctors. These hospitals are distinguished by their contribution to patient well-being, innovative treatment methods and research.
